A Lifetime in the Cosmetics World
A journey that began in 1985, when imports were liberalized in Turkey… After completing his university and MBA education, Hakan Okay stepped into the industry as a Cosmetics Product Manager at VEPA Cosmetics Inc. VEPA, one of Turkey's companies with the widest sales network at that time, was also bringing world brands like Estée Lauder and Enrico Coveri to the Turkish market.
During this period, Hakan Okay personally managed product management, promotion strategies, dealership structuring, and field sales operations.
He established distribution networks reaching hundreds of perfumeries and pharmacies throughout Turkey, managing all field operations of brands from window displays to press launches.
In those years when shopping malls and chain perfumeries did not yet exist in Turkey, he learned through field experience that perfume was not just a product, but a stance and a language of communication.
International Experience and Brand Building
Launches, Global Brands and Market Leadership
In the later years of his career, Hakan Okay took an active role in both the local and global aspects of the cosmetics industry. He managed the Turkey launches of world brands such as Hugo Boss, Laura Biagiotti, Aramis, and Estée Lauder; established dealership systems and organized press conferences and gala nights.
As Deputy General Manager at Aromel Cosmetics, he played an active role in redesigning perfume series, organizing international sales and establishing export networks. He made export connections through direct contacts in many markets, especially Russia, and managed company establishments abroad.
During this period, he experienced COSMOPROF Bologna, the world's largest cosmetics fair, for years as both a visitor and participant. He worked with essence producers and received international training on perfume composition, packaging design, and brand management.
Perfume had become for him not just a scent, but a discipline where strategy, psychology, design, and marketing intersect.

Deepening his academic journey with master's and doctoral studies, Hakan Okay has specialized in organizational innovation, intellectual capital, and sustainable competition.
He guided many brands by sharing his field experience through books, trainings, and consultancy projects. At the same time, his aesthetic perspective nourished by art history, painting, and classical music formed the foundation of his approach to fragrance.
